Threads to New Worlds - A Collection of Fiber Arts Opens October 4, 2013 at The Willamette Heritage Center

Weaving Guilds of Oregon

(SALEM, Ore.) - “Threads to New Worlds - A Collection of Fiber Arts” is a year-long traveling exhibit sponsored by Weaving Guilds of Oregon (WeGO). This juried show contains 30 pieces, plus display pieces of fiber art, created by 24 artists. The show opens at the Willamette Heritage Center on Friday, October 4 during the annual Quiltopia and the Handweavers’ Sale. The show closes on December 24, 2013.

Today’s fiber artists continue to pursue the ancient art of weaving by making wool yarn into rugs, silk and the new synthetic fibers into scarves and garments, cotton and recycled fibers and items into wall hangings, and other items specially designed by the artists.

WeGO, formed as a statewide organization in 1982, currently has 700+ members. Its purpose is to share information and resources, educate, and promote fiber art throughout the state of Oregon. WeGo sponsors a traveling exhibit every three to five years. The Salem Fiberarts Guild, which calls the Center home, is a member of WeGO.
