Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin Dies in Freak Accident on Barrier Reef

Steve Irwin's TV show had brought him as much fame among American audiences as in his Austrailian homeland.

(QUEENSLAND, Aust.) - The man the world recognizes as the world famous television Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, has died on the Great Barrier Reef in an apparent stinging incident involving a stingray.

Irwin was filming an underwater documentary when he was struck by a stingray barb. He was diving off Port Douglas when the accident happened.

"He probably died from a cardiac arrest from the injury," local officials said, adding that Mr. Irwin's body is being flown to a morgue that is located in Cairns.

Australian press says Tasmanian police have confirmed his American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania. A family spokeswoman says police made contact with Mrs Irwin and "passed on a message relating to the death of her husband".

Steve Irwin had two children, a daughter, Bindi Sue Irwin, eight, and a son, Robert (Bob) Clarence Irwin, three. His Crododile Hunter program was first broadcast in 1992 and has been shown around the world on the Discovery Channel.

An ambulance service was called at about 11:00 AM on Monday and an emergency services helicopter was flown to Batt Reef, off Port Douglas, with a doctor and emergency services paramedic on board.

Mr Irwin had a puncture wound to the left side of his chest and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

These included the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation, and International Crocodile Rescue.

Steve Irwin is my model to follow since I saw the first "Crocodile Hunter" what I had clear, is not that saw all its chapters, I do not have time to watch TV, but neither needed him to know that when I grow up I want to be like , And I want to work there at the Australian Zoo and continue with their work, I always like an animal in contrast to my family, girl even exist when the laser disc I was about CDs giants on documentaries instead of seeing the Cinderella or Snow White or any of those, the worst is that I know he died not long ago, a couple of months perhaps, I am of the opinion that if he hope that his death was shown to the world, should be well, is not that people admired what you need, but is a personage who should go down in history, something like Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente, for his courage, his humor in any situation embarrassing and dangerous, because you never compromised imported to show the world the truth about animals, because that is what toward taught us that crocodiles are not some bloodthirsty without scruples, and when her friend the centenarian female crocodile died, he came in the pond even with the other two crocodiles inside and cry like a child and explained it to be attacked and he did not care and two crocodiles were not seen, there might be attacked, he was invading its territory, he was in the same pond, the water was sufficient for an attack, but what they intuit what happened, somehow you knew, so if anyone dares to tell me that animals have no feelings, because if we were up to them Steve Irwin or somebody would have died long before, that nobody dares to say that animals only act on instinct, because I will be showing supreme ignorance and what is worse, will be forgetting to Steve Irwin, this is just an example of what I am saying. Most important that we teach, is that animals are our fellow who should be treated with affection, but also with respect and who often can learn a lot from them, however small, even if it appears that not ... Finally I want to tell your family, friends and colleagues that I’m sorry so much and although my pain cannot compare to yours, is very large. From the other side of the ocean, a 15 years girl. Steven never anyone you've ever seen in action may never forget, I hope that wherever you are you reach my words, or the feeling that they have set, and please help me to meet my dream: I want to be like you.

Lo mas importante que nos enseño, es que los animales son nuestros semejantes que debemos tratarles con cariño, pero tambien con respeto y que muchas veces se puede aprender mucho de ellos, por pequeño que sea, aunque parezca que no... The last silly ass stunt was trying to ride the back of a wild stingray, only to be attacked...not what ANYONE should EVER do! The fact that so many people put this guy as a priority is obscene. He appears to be the number one hit on this site and I am sure it is national. I have always admired Steve and ive seen his show 5 years ago and i am still watching his show and he is admired all around the world by billions of people young and small old and wise but he will be admired more by his biggest fans. I was so very saddened to hear of Steve's untimely death. The world has lost one of the greatest human beings that has ever lived. Ever since I can remember I had steve in my life through his tv shows. when I was younger I had the bigest crush on him because to me steve was the perfect man, he loved animals, he loved his family, and he was so full of life. I was crushed when I found out he got married but soon got over it because Terrry made him happy and she gave him two beautiful children. I still havn't excepted his death because to me he was invenceable. I'm just not ready to let him go.... almost two weeks befor he died I had told my boyfriend that when we got married we were going to Austrailia for our honey moon. Then when I was visiting my mom I was sitting in the living room and she was on the computer. My mom knows how much I care for Steve. She called my over to the computer and with tears in her eyes she told me to read the screen. There in black and white was my worst nightmare, because I was always worried that one day one of the animals that he loved would get him off guard and kill him, but as soon as I read the screen I started shaking my head in denile and kept saying," Its not true, It can't be, maby it's just a trick, it has to be." I cried for days. And I feel so bad for Terry,Bindy,baby bob and his other family and friends because If I was crushed over this I can't even think what they are going through...I just wanted to say I'm praying everyone gets through this and Steve will always be remembered for everything he's done and that we will all keep him in our hearts. I LOVE YOU STEVE IRWIN WITH ALL MY HEART AND I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU.... GOODBYE.

i am a 13 year old girl from toront Steve was a great man..the only thing i would watch was him nothing elce was ever exciting i gave concert tickest up just to watch his shows. he was known all around the world for what he did..when i herd i was crying abought it for days. he was always full of life and had a grate love and affection for animals. he was my hero..i always dreamd that i would meet him one day. when i was three i told everyone how i was going to be just like him when i grew up. i would have loved for him to continu with everything he has done for the world. i say these words with tears in my eyes and barly anything can make me cry. i dident even cry when my dog died..but now..its the sadist thing. i hope that no one forgets steve, and i pray that by some merical evrything will be ok. ♥I LOVE YOU STEVE♥ and too the family i hope that you will be ok..im here for yu and if i could help then i would. god bless.

I remember a quote from Aristotle that for me explains my love for the Crocodile Hunter. It one wraps themselves in a community with the predisposition to do good then that person will do good within good. When you turned on the Crodile Hunter and Terri their was no better good to wrap yourself in. It was an honor to know and too see a person on this planet like Steve Irwin and Terri. hi my name is Stacie I am righting to send my regards to Steve family and friend for the loss of Steve Irwin. When I hared the new about Steve I was so shocked and I started to cry I could only think about what the family and friends of Steve was going throw at the time. I just couldn’t baleav it Steve is such a legend and a stare in mine and many other peoples eyes. I loved whacking Steve on the T.V when I came in from school ,when I felt down he cheered me up I’m still going to watched Steve on the dvds i got and videos and records iv got. Steve was my biggest idol and i now everything about him. Steve tote me allot about animal and about the environment crowding or and animals life and helped me to see that animals are not a bad as I first thought they were and that they can help us an swell as us helping them. I think that the point Steve was trying to get across to everyone but I think there was more behind this life that juts to educate people about animals. He seamed realy happy with everything he was and did do. Steve might be dead but he at left his family and friends forever they still have pics, video, dvd of him but most importantly they still got the memories and his love with them all the time. Steve had 2 kids a wife a zoo and lots of friend, he didn’t’t deserve to dye and he was only 44 but he died doing something he loved. Steve did everything in way to help so much on the world animals and wild life and he wouldn’t’t of stopped for anything, his life was all about animals and most of his love was for animals and there conservation of the animals. he spent all his life working around and for animals he put his life in so much danger every time he went hear a animal just to prove to people that not all animals were like what people thought and he would stop at nothing to help and save animals. To run a zoo and seaport a female must off been hard and not many people would of dun it but Steve pulled it off ,he was a grate family man who loved his family so much and a grate animal man. Just because Steve ant hear to continue the work he was doing for the animals dousing mean we should stop it means we should be more determent to continue what Steve work. i feel so sorry for the family of Steve and hope people are supporting his family in anyway. I cant imagine how horde it must be for the family but terry especially, she has the to kids to look after and the zoo to. I no the children wont understand what has happened but one day they will and they will carry on in there dads footsteps and do what he has dun. Steve will be grate lost but never forgot and always loves. we have lost such a stare and a grate man My dream was to meet Steve but i cant, but i will still come to Australia and hopeful meet his family and go to pay my respects to him. I'm from Puerto Rico, and I was a fan of Steve from years ago, he was like a superman for the wild life animals. I never had a chance to meet him personally but I'm sure that he is going to keep working hard even harder from heaven to keep his dreems alive. He had two kids and a wife that loved his work and provably one day we are going to see them doing the same thing and caring a lot for wild life animals as their father did. My heart goes out to his family. There are so few people on this earth that have touched the lives of so many others. We live in New York and the only country I have wanted to travel to was Australia. My husband and I are planning a trip there next year. Your zoo was going to be one of our main stops.
