(JEFFERSON) - Jefferson Firefighters were called to a six-car motor vehicle crash that sent four patients to local hospitals Monday afternoon at approximately 2:15 PM.

The accident occurred on Northbound I-5 near Milepost 243 which is near the Ankeny Hill exit. A Toyota pick-up that was hauling a sand rail jackknifed, causing a chain reaction of accidents.

The right lane of NB I-5 was closed for approximately 30-minutes which tied up Labor Day traffic for hours. One of the four patients had to be extricated.

The four injured people were transported by Jefferson and Turner medics.

Jefferson crews also provided traffic control and patient assessment for four other victims that received minor injuries.
