Oct-26-2006 22:15TweetFollow @OregonNews Author of The Real History Behind The DaVinci Code Making Special Appearance in SalemSalem-News.comSharan Newman has been pleasing readers for more than 20 years with her popular Catherine LeVendeur novels and the Guinevere series.
(SALEM) - Medieval author and historian Sharan Newman attracted national attention recently with her book "The Real History Behind the Da Vinci Code." In her book and in nationally aired interviews on the History Channel, the Learning Channel, and the National Geographic Channel, she answers the hundreds of questions raised by Dan Brown's runaway best-seller "The Da Vinci Code." Is the story true? Does the Opus Dei exist? Who are the Templars? What is the Holy Grail and whom does it serve? She will answer these questions and more in a special appearance at Salem Public Library in November, scheduled just two days after the DVD/video release of the movie "The Da Vinci Code," starring Tom Hanks. Newman will speak at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 16th in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets are on sale now at all Library circulation desks. "The Real History Behind the Da Vinci Code" fills in some background on several places, events and subjects mentioned in the book, while shedding light on some of the mysteries of the Dark Ages. It is soon to be followed by the recently completed "The Real History Behind the Templars," due for release in 2007. Newman's appearance is a part of the Modern Voices Author Series, which is sponsored by the Salem Public Library Foundation. More information about the series and about Newman's appearance is available at salemlibrary.org or by calling (503) 588-6052.
