Statement on House Failure to Override CHIP Veto

Statement by OCPP Policy Analyst Janet Bauer on House Failure to Override CHIP Veto

Oregon's Greg Walden
Oregon's Greg Walden sided with Bush in the vote

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Today was a sad day for thousands of uninsured children in Oregon and millions across the country. The U.S. House of Representatives failed to override President Bush's veto of the bipartisan Children's Health Insurance Program Act of 2007.

We commend Oregon Representatives Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, Darlene Hooley, and David Wu for standing alongside the nation's most vulnerable children.

We are disappointed that Representative Greg Walden voted against the override. The children in his district deserved better. For their sake, we hope that in the future he will reconsider his opposition.

Oregonians demand health care for their children. Every day, more children join the ranks of the uninsured -- a shocking reality that Representative Walden and the White House simply can't will away.

Well, I think the issue of illegals is irrelevant in this as I feel no illegals or children of illegals should get such services in the first place. (You can save any 'you are going to hell for your views' nonsense as I do not believe in hell.. it is a christian creation to threaten small children with) ... the veto should have been overridden for the benefit of the kid in this country who are completey legal in status and who will suffer because of this veto. We all know this would never have been vetoed or that it would have been overridden if the PotUS and all members of Congress were limited in their OWN health care choices to that possessed by the US citizen with the least (or no) health care. Ah well...

Gigi, your point of view makes my heart sink, you are going to hell for your views, sadly you are not a Christian, just the spawn of some white trash. Talk to St. Peter about it just before you begin your southward journey.

Problem is, and we all know it, a lot of those kids are illegals or children of illegals who do not deserve to be given free health care at our expense. We owe the CITIZENS of this country aid but we certainly don't owe a dime to all the little illegals spawn and that is exactly who would benefit from this bill and you know it!
