(CRESSWELL, Ore.) - A Springfield man was struck and killed shortly after midnight on I-5 near Creswell following a domestic altercation. Lane County Deputies were en route to a related domestic assault call at TJ's Restaurant in Creswell when a vehicle-pedestrian crash on I-5 happened.

They say 23-year old Scott Phillips was reportedly in a domestic altercation inside TJ's Restaurant, and after that he walked to I-5 at the Creswell Interchange and sat on the cement barrier adjacent to the southbound lanes.

Investigators say Mr. Phillips then stood up and stepped in front of a U-Haul truck which was not able to avoid him. He was then struck by a southbound 2006 Kia Rio. Mr. Phillips died at the scene. His next of kin have been notified of his death.

OSP Springfield Area Command Troopers are investigating the crash. Lane County Sheriff's Deputies assisted at the scene. One southbound lane and the Creswell on-ramp were closed for about three hours during the scene investigation. No citations or criminal charges are anticipated in connection with the crash.
