(SALEM, Ore. ) - A Salem Police search for a burglary suspect near Highland Elementary School at 530 Highland Ave NE alarmed a few neighbors this morning. Salem police spokesman Lt. Dan Dietz said the suspect, with stuff in hand, ran from police from a home in the area. The search was located on Broadway Street, Columbia Ave NE, and Maple Ave NE. K-9 units were dispatched to the scene. Dietz said they notified the school district about the incident, but Salem/Keizer School District says the situation was resolved before school began, and no lockdown was been ordered for Highland Elementary. Police say it is a good reminder that if you child walks or rides their bike to school, parents should accompany them today for their safety.
