Injured Soldiers Receive Unexpected Hollywood Guest

Every bit the hero he portrays in TV movies, Denzel Washington brandished a checkbook at the conclusion of his visit.

(SAN ANTONIO, Tx.) - Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) recently.

This is where soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the United States, especially burn victims.

There are some buildings at this facility called Fisher Houses that accomodate the families of soldiers, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the Hospital.

The Brooks Army MEdical Center has quite a few of these houses on base, but as one would imagine, they are rarely vacant.

While Denzel Washington was visiting the medical center, he took a tour of one of the Fisher Houses.

After the tour, he asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot.

The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

Here are some of Denzel' Washington's movies...

Courage Under Fire Devil in a Blue Dress Virtuosity, Crimson Tide Philadelphia The Pelican Brief Malcolm X, Glory The Might Quinn Cry Freedom A Soldier's Story License to Kill American Gangster Inside Man The Manchurian Candidate Man on Fire Antwone Fisher John Q., Training Day Remember the Titans The Hurricane The Bone Collector The Seige He Got Game Fallen The Preacher's Wife

I'm more than a little surprised to see this story here. This did not happen last week. Washington made his visit to BAMC in December 2004. This story has been making the email rounds of the internet for over a year. He did not write a check on the spot for the entire cost of a Fisher House. He did make a substantial donation several months later.
