(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - Iraqi and coalition forces killed 37 enemy fighters, detained four suspects and seized weapons caches in Iraq over the past three days, military officials said. West of Baqubah today, coalition forces received heavy fire from combatants during an operation targeting a “special groups” commander believed to be associated with members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Force. Intelligence indicates the suspect is involved in moving weapons from Iran to Baghdad and other criminal activities. As enemy fire intensified, troops returned fire and called in air support. The armed group continued to engage and began advancing toward coalition forces, firing assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades. Troops also observed one armed individual carrying what appeared to be an anti-aircraft weapon into a nearby building. Supporting aircraft engaged and killed an estimated 25 insurgents and destroyed two buildings. “We continue to support the government of Iraq in welcoming the commitment by Muqtada al-Sadr to stop attacks, and we will continue to show restraint in dealing with those who honor his pledge,” said Army Maj. Anton Alston, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesman. “We will not show the same restraint against those criminals who dishonor this pledge by attacking security forces and Iraqi citizens. “Coalition forces will take the necessary action against these criminals to protect the Iraqi people against future terrorist acts,” Alston added. Elsewhere in Iraq today: -- Coalition forces killed seven suspected terrorists and detained another during an operation in the Iraqi capital targeting senior al Qaeda leaders. -- During a raid aimed at dismantling Baghdad’s foreign terrorist facilitation ring, coalition forces captured one wanted individual who allegedly is the courier for Baghdad’s southern belt and is involved in financing terrorists in the area. -- Coalition forces near Yusufiyah killed four terrorists, including an al Qaeda associate believed to be a foreign terrorist facilitator. The wanted terrorist also was alleged to have close ties to former regional emir Abu Usama al-Tunisi. At the site, troops found several rifles, grenades and a backpack with explosive material. -- Troops killed one terrorist in Kirkuk while targeting an alleged al Qaeda foreign terrorist facilitator operating in Tamim province. Coalition forces detained another suspect at a nearby house. -- In Samarra, coalition forces conducted an operation to deny sanctuary to al Qaeda operatives and captured a wanted terrorist who identified himself to troops. Meanwhile, coalition forces are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of three civilians slain yesterday in Abu Lukah village, north of Musayyib. The civilians were near a “concerned citizen” checkpoint when coalition forces shot and killed them. On Oct. 3, a group of Iraqi citizens provided a tip that led soldiers from Company D, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry, to a large weapons cache east of Baghdad. Troops seized 49 mortar rounds, 200 7.62 mm rounds, four propellant tubes, and various military paraphernalia. Coalition forces also detained one suspicious individual. “Concerned citizens know their neighborhoods the best,” said Army Maj. Rhett Griner, the effects coordinator for 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team. “They have a vested interest in eradicating thugs and criminals from their communities.” Civilian tipsters have led coalition forces to eight caches and 11 improvised explosive devices since early July, Griner said. Lay it down Vic, the only people sticking up for Bush are sick in the heart and they will be scorned in the future and ridiculed. You can see their grip slipping away, they are doomed and yet do not give no matter what. Vic is a human being who wants life not death, every other ideology is evil crap.

I do not blame our troops for this mess. Misguided or not, I believe that most made their decisions to join out of good intentions. I blame our leaders. They are the ones responsible for every death and injury and to think that it is about PROFIT just enrages me! I cannot imagine what it is like to have a child over in a war zone. Every phone call..every car that drove by and even seemed to slow down would terrify me. Every time I looked at the news and heard of another few soldiers killed I would be terrified..wondering if my child were among them. I think our troops are being MISUSED for the worst reasons. The parents and loved ones of these troops are being put through hell for the worst reasons. Look up the definition of fascism...I dont care what dictionary or Wikipedia or whatever you use..it fits. Private corporations and financial interests have more say in the direction of the country than do the citizens ..aka military-industrial complex. This is why our troops are being misused. I pray for all the people of the Earth who suffer as a result of our apathy as citizens. I remember as a 5th grader in History class learning about WW2 wondering what the hell was wrong with the German people..why did they let a egotistical madman lead the whole country down the road to destruction and become despised by the rest of the world. Why, I wondered, didnt they DO SOMETHING ? That, I am afraid, is how future kids in future history classes will view us.

I believe Vic said that our soldiers were the new SS, he said it now he has to live with it. As for being a Bushidiot, I am not a fan of the man but I do think our troops are doing a fine job and are not Nazis

JB: Spoken like a real Bushidiot, and with about as much insight as a Cheneyist denying Halliburton contractitis. "See with own eyes" on any national daily front-page, and watch for more-coming/soon on impeachment as next natural progression forced by even moreofsame from both.

Was Vic bashing our soldiers or our leaders? Stating facts isn't really bashing anyway. The soldiers are doing what they are told. They are heros and you know that people against the war aren't against them. Get real, JB. IT IS OUR CRIMINAL LEADERS!!!
JB October 5, 2007 2:33 pm (Pacific time)
Vic why don't you go smoke some dope and play Halo instead of bashing our fine troops. Id like to see you call some young Marine a Nazi and see what would happend next.

“Coalition forces will take the necessary action against these criminals to protect the Iraqi people against future terrorist acts,” Alston added. Yeah......while we kill an estimated 600,000 Iraqis, we will "protect" them from the "insurgents" who are protecting their families, villages and country from an invading force. Kind of like how the Nazis "protected" the Poles. Face it folks, we are the New Nazis..our soldiers are the new SS..and history will fillet us as the uncaring, racist, murdering thieves that we are. No wonder the whole world hates us. I remember when things were different...or at least we thought they were.
