US and Israel Complain Over Historic UN Vote on Palestine

Congratulations to all Palestinians and their supporters...

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - "No decision by the UN can break the 4,000-year-old bond between the people of Israel and the land of Israel," Israel's ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor said today in reference to the UN vote on Palestine.

Um, guess again Ron, it was never there, only a tiny handful of Jewish people lived in Palestine, you think you can steal the land because of your 4,000 year old imaginary bond, well I have some beachfront property in Florida to tell you about.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the vote "unfortunate and counter-productive", saying it put more obstacles on the path to peace.

Somebody hand her a box of Kleenex.

It seems almost impossible to put into words, the reaction this world is having to the large step achieved in the UN today. The UN General Assembly votes by a wide margin, to award non-member observer status to Palestine. In a slap in the face to the enemies of Palestine in the United States government, the move passed in a vote of 138-9.

Ha!

The development gives new life to the old concept of a 'two state solution'. It is going to happen now, in spite of the best efforts of the US government to prevent it.

As usual I am terribly ashamed of my country.

The representatives do not carry my interests or those of any good or fair minded person. We have been in Amerika, literally forced to accept Israel. No more.

This page from RT has developments from the ground in Palestine.

Quotes from activists upon hearing the news:

Ken O'Keefe: As long as the Palestinians never formally accept anything but proper justice, i.e. all of Palestine, then I am happy. To accept only pre-1967 borders would be to reward the Jewish State of Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestine. There can be no reward for Israel's crimes, only justice. Palestine is Palestine, the Holy Land, Israel is a racist, Jewish supremacist criminal entity posing as a legitimate state. While I am happy that Palestinians are celebrating, I hope they never, ever accept anything but what is right and due to them."

Anna O'Leary - "Wow. Palestine just won its statehood by a landslide. Palestines just want their country back and there are many here who will help them. Viva Palestine. 65 years of israel is just a blip in the historybook. Let's drive them home to wherever they blew in from. Helen Thomas was right."

Scott Rickard: "Witnessing the fall of Zionism."

William James Martin: "The US lobbied long and hard to suppress the Yea vote, but as they were lobbying their Neas were eroding."

Becky Dent: "I'm sobbing!!! This is amazing!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!! For the first time in my life, I'm speechless!"

David Evans: "..., one thing is for certain. We are definitely approaching a train wreck if the US continues being steered by Zionists. That so many US citizens are oblivious of this is disgusting, and it is my view that whatever consequences they may reap from their willful ignorance, they justly deserve."

Joe Catron: ""As thousands of Palestinians celebrate the UN's recognition of their country as a non-member observer state, we must all be mindful of the rights - to self-determination, equality, and return - for which thousands more have fought and died. None of us can know the full impact of today's diplomatic upgrade, but we can and should remember that it addresses the demands of one-third of Palestinians, on 22% of Palestinian land, only partially, since half of Gaza Strip and West Bank residents are refugees ethnically cleansed from their homes elsewhere in historic Palestine. As solidarity activists, we must continue and escalate our support for the Palestinian struggle as a whole, through every available means."

Ralph Stone: "The Palestinian Authority had no choice but to seek non-member status in the United Nations. Why? Because peace negotiations with Israel have been long stalled and Israel continues settlement building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which is illegal under international law. In seeking non-member status, the PA was not cowed by U.S. and Israeli threats of retaliation. By doing nothing, Israel would continue its slow takeover of the entire country and drive out the non-Jewish population. I congratulate the Palestinians on their newly achieved non-member status. The next step is full UN membership.

See my article, "Will the Palestine Authority Seek Non-Member Status in the United Nations?" (www.salem-news.com/articles/november072012/palestine-un-rs.php)

Eileen Fleming: The road to peace runs through Tel Aviv, Ramallah, and the UN, which was the body that began the carving up of the holy land. The Establishment of Israel's very statehood was contingent upon upholding the UN UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS and every Member State is obligated to hold all other Member States to it!

Baby Abrao: "The recognition of Palestine as a State is an old debt of UN, which, because of pressions, threats and money of the Zionism, recomended the partition of a country for the creation of another one -- an illegal, illegitimate and imoral recomendation. It's the first step for Palestinians take again their original country, house of all people who live there and the refugées. The battle against Zionism haven't finished yet."

Bonnie King: "This is a well-earned milestone for the people of Palestine. After 65 years of occupation and repression, the world is loudly proclaiming that Palestinians deserve the same Human Rights as all other members of this human experience. No longer will the "leave or die" Zionist mentality be allowed to reign free. Congratulations to all our Palestinian brothers and sisters, and to the worldwide community. Viva Palestina! TJP (Truth-Justice-Peace)."

Siraj Davis: "I have never been known as a pessimist. However, I am weary to celebrate too soon. There is a difference between celebrating a certain victory and celebrating a premature fait accompli. A bird in one hand is NOT worth nothing in the other for 60 years when in the beginning, both hands were filled for a millennia. It is illogical and barefaced fatalism to assert otherwise. The Vietnamese were told to capitulate and African Americans almost left America to return back to Africa, until a few wise words breached the foolish sentiments of emotionalism over latent actions and the pessimistic despair seeking a quick answer, which were rampant during the former and latter times. Let's hope for the best, yet expect and prepare for the worse from Israel and the US. "

Great news, at least on the surface for the Palestinians, but look what's going on with one of their biggest supporters, Egypt- (Maybe you should reflect on what your interpretation of human rights are, and what those "rights" are in actuality for those in power over there). Talk and action seems to be miles and miles apart: "Disputed articles in Egypt's draft constitution...{No equal rights for women; owning slaves not banned and many many more outrages}..." http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/ML_EGYPT_CONSTITUTION_GLANCE?SITE=APandSECTION=HOMEandTEMPLATE=DEFAULTandCTIME=2012-11-29-20-23-22

Yeah this is great news and quite a defeat for Israel by a huge margin. I notice the Israeli propagandists who turn up to give interviews on news channels are desperately hoping that no one would point out that their country is hopelessly out of touch with the rest of the world on the Palestinian issue.

Nice one, Tim. For those interested in more than the PR put out by both sides on this issue I suggest this book which looks at how we got into this mess starting with WWI:
