Tamil Tigers Honored in Chennai

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - A special observation was held Tuesday in Chennai, India to honor the Tamil Tigers, a military group that battled forces from the government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) for three decades.

Officially known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, or LTTE, this resistance force defeated the army of Sri Lanka in combat time and time again, for which Buddhist mobs would often strike Tamil civilians as retribution for military losses.

The LTTE fought with success that was at times overwhelming to the Sinhala Buddhist government. For years, since independence from The United Kingdom in 1948, Sri Lanka tried without success to eradicate the Hindu and Christian Tamil population in the north.

It all ended in a terrible Genocide that left upwards of 160,000 Tamil Tigers and civilians missing or dead, in May of 2009. The images of this time are horrendous reminders of the tragedy that befell people whose government was designated 'terrorist'. This terminology was used as an excuse to slaughter civilians by the tens of thousand.

As we have reported in the past, the leader of the Tamil Tigers, Velupillai Prabhakaran, sent his son, accompanied by bodyguards, to surrender to government forces. They were murdered.

Later Velupillai Prabhakaran was murdered also, the top of his head blown off, but Sri Lankan soldiers tried to photograph him with the top of his head simply covered, it was a failure to hide the murder, one of many called "White Flag Murders" as they took place as LTTE leaders attempted to surrender under but were simply murdered in a series of war crimes.

So in Chennai, on the 27th September, the LTTE and its heroes were commemorated for Remembrance Day 2012 for these New Testament Hero militants who paid the final price. This Renaissance event took place on the road.

The arrangements for these special meetings held in Chennai included a series of performances of Renaissance for tencennai DMK District Secretary, Comrade Velachery manimaran, and were better organized.

No one story can begin to explain the triumphs and tragedies of the Tamil people of Sri Lanka who have endured so much suffering and Tamil Eelam, the breakaway state that was established in the coastal north region of this island nation to offer a place for the Tamil culture to endure and the for the people to be safe.

It was after George W. Bush and Tony Blair helped the regime of Sri Lankan President Majinda Rajapaksa label the name 'terrorists' on the LTTE, that the wanton slaughter really kicked into gear, it was well underway by 2006, all rules were dismissed and ignored and the Sri Lankan Army laid waste to people in the foulest ways. I am only a student of the Tamil Tigers but I know some of their history and stories and I can not help but admire their position as a resistance army. A standing cease-fire was in effect when Sri Lanka launched its final offensive against the LTTE.

சென்னையில் நடைபெறும் ஈழ ஆதரவு கூட்டங்ககளுக்கு சிறப்பான ஏற்பாடுகளை தொடர்ச்சியாக செய்துவரும் மறுமலர்ச்சி திமுகவின் தென்சென்னை மாவட்டச் செயலாளர் தோழர் வேளச்சேரி மணிமாறன் சிறப்பாக ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தார். தேன் கூடு, திலீபன் போன்ற வரலாற்றுச்சிறப்புமிக்க திரைப்படங்களில் ஈழப்போராட்ட காட்சிக்கான துவக்குகள், வெடிகுண்டுகள் அளித்த "Bomb" பழனி குழுவினர் மாவீரர் வீரவணக்க வடிவமைப்பை சிறப்புடன் அமைத்திருந்தார்.
