Dancing With The Stars

Whatever happened to, “talent” when declaring the best?

Bristol Palin
Bristol Palin

(CLEVELAND) - They say in show business, it is always about who you know.

Sarah Palin's daughter, Briston Palin, has been advancing as a cast member in the 11th season of "Dancing With the Stars," and currents reports suggest Bristol Palin was something of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Palin's children have gained fame in recent years for a number of activities, like having children out of wedlock and posing in Playgirl Magazine.

The supposedly religious right has a real handful with Palin and her laundry list.

From the moment she was rumored as a cast member for Season 11 of "Dancing With the Stars," Bristol Palin has been the subject of endless reports.

She has seen strong backing from the right wing; in fact reporters have blindly sided with Palin's favor in this story.

The imbalanced media attention, is partly tied to Bristol's mother's presence on the set.

Some says she isn't so bad, and that may be the case, but do people have no shame?

Dancing With The Stars

Well, well, well! Now, if that just ain’t dandy,
They have eliminated the best dancer, Brandi,
In favor of awkwardness & no rhythm, Bristol,
It’s being in a war zone with an unloaded pistol.

Can’t imagine no talent going to the finals, Palin,
2010, the mast has risen and slave ships are salin,
Mucho hard work as you practice and you sweat,
Surely the ultimate score, perfect, yeah, you bet.

Three ten’s equals thirty, the highest possible yet,
But, those voting from home never let you forget,
The one most often in the bottom, is in the finals,
Just like the voting irregularities in American Idol.

I refuse to recite that word but it begins with, “R,”
This latest episode reminds, still haven’t come far,
Surfacing from the local church to the corner bar,
Style & grace sent home, two left feet is the star?

Yes, we’ve conquered the highest office but realize,
Almost every talk show host & Republican despise.
They hate saying the word president before his name,
The problems we face were here long before he came.

Whatever happened to, “talent” when declaring the best?
That one special quality so now there’s no need to guess,
The thing separating crème quality from milk of the rest,
I mean those always getting the highest score on the test.

It’s absolutely nothing against the daughter or her mama,
But this show is strictly about dancing skills not, Karma,
Partnered with professionals so, shouldn’t there be rules?
Is not this the main reason the PGA Tour has, Q School?

There are other names to use so I’ll suggest ludicrous,
Ah, maybe this to emphasize the injustice, ridiculous?
As our English language has many to choose but wait,
How about Sara Palin, President of The United States?

Even from the sanctuary pulpit be it a woman or a man,
But she gives speeches from notes written on her hand,
Oh my, from the bottom of the barrel straight to the top,
Centuries, generation after generation, will it ever stop?

Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in.

We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end.

Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. You can write to Luke Easter at: lyricsfromlucas@aol.com

Daniel you wrote: "Personally I would like to see sarah win the nomination , it strengthens the democrats." I can't think of a reason why Palin would want to be president and move to Washington. She clearly loves Alaska and has a wonderful family who also love Alaska as home. Palin clearly has a good thing going with the influence she has on nationainternational politics and election cycles. On a personal level, she has been able to amass a small fortune in being who she is. I don't begrudge her the fortune, and I don't blame her for her love of the wild beauty of Alaska. I can't think of a single reason she would want to move to an urban environment often choked with crime and poverty. I can't think of a good reason why she should want even more scrutiny into her life and her doings with her children and submit to being organized 24 hours a day. I can't think of why she would want to brave the wall of vitriol that would come from the left as well as many Republican establishment types. Make no mistake that if she does run for president, you can expect every rude, misogynistic, and disgusting word in several languages to be thrown her way. In fact, there is only one reason I can ask Sarah Palin to brave the sewers of a presidential run. The reason is that we need her. The brutal reality of America is that an aristocracy has developed in Washington against the wishes of the founders of this country. Look at those who won't pay their fair share of taxes. For example Rangel and John Kerry (his 10 million dollar yacht is in Rhode Island to avoid his state's taxes. I wonder if he pays taxes on his private jet ?). The election results earlier this month shows how the voter's are trending, and that is not going to be altered anytime soon.

Harold, Levi Johnson is not a Palin son-in-law, he's more like a persona non grata. To me it appears he sold out a relationship with his own son to make some money. He's just being used and will probably have a very tough life in the future, is my guess. The Palin's have the resources to tie him up in court for many years when he tries to assert his paternal rights. I feel bad for the kid, and all the Palin children. Seems that open season on them is okay with many in the media, what a bunch of lowlifes' attacking children.

Editor: Children?  That was a good one, thanks for the humor.

Luke I also feel children are out of bounds for their parents actions . Is this girl being used by the right , she sure is , but no need for name calling . Who wins DWTS has nothing to do with me , i never have watched the show . Criticizing Bristol does nothing but make her look like a victim . Personally I would like to see sarah win the nomination , it strengthens the democrats .

All this political nastiness because of 20y. old girl's dancing skills is strange. It would be more interesting if they put Condoleezza Rice in pair with Max, and say El Gore with... ummm Cheryl. Whoever wins--takes the majority of seats. They belong to the opposite parties now, right?

It's a reality show, it's not real, it has nothing to do with real merit. I did notice in several articles about this program that the show had it's highest ratings in a long time. So it appears the producers/network were gaming everybody. Just the same this rancor people have in this matter seems misplaced considering what's going on in the real world. I've heard about this so-called Palin-derangement syndrome, boy the power these people have over so many.

Tom November 25, 2010 12:26 pm (Pacific time)

Luke what is really sad is how the children witness the bad behavior by adults when they take cheap shots at those with opposing viewpoints. Quite often those cheap shots are based on erroneous information, and many probably know their info is wrong.
This reality show, Dancing with the Stars is just a television entertainment program, but people got all riled up because of the huge number of voters who backed someone like Bristol Palin. Have to give her kudos, this teenager worked hard and did her best, now what more should we ask of our children? By the way no Palin family member posed for Playgirl, but Sen. Brown from Massachussettes did, and that didn't stop him from winning a seat that had been in democratic party hands for 60 plus years. I guess trash talking is alive and well, and for some, that's all they have. Pity.

Editor: Would you feel the same if it was the other way around, say Pres. Obama's daughter?  Would that be equally kosher with you?

Harold November 25, 2010 8:19 am (Pacific time)

"like having children out of wedlock and posing in Playgirl Magazine"

No one in the Palin family ever posed for Playboy. You just lied.

Here you go: Playgirl Magazine 2010 - Features Sarah Palin's son-in-law Levi Johnston [Single Issue Magazine]

Betty November 25, 2010 8:17 am (Pacific time)

ABC asked her on even after she told them she didn't know how to dance. She ends up being mauled by the media and receiving death threats. Yeah, thanks a lot DWTS...

Roger von Bütow November 25, 2010 6:20 am (Pacific time)

This is only one of the reasons I refuse to watch an obviously self-serving, self-promoting, incestuous, idiotically contrived PR network TV show like this. I watched a video clip of her for the same reason I slow down at car wrecks, idle curiosity. Anyone who closely resembles and dances like a beached whale shouldn't be on the world's stage. Period.
