(Newberg, Oregon) - After a pair of season-opening five point losses at home to NAIA teams Corban University (95-90) and Northwest University (86-81), the George Fox University Bruins will seek better results on the road for the next 10 games, starting Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Ore. Fans who cannot get to Eugene may follow the Bruins via Northwest Christian’s live stats at www.northwestchristian.edu/athletics/livestats/xlive.htm?live=true. NCU will also provide a live video/audio broadcast at gobeacons.nmtvsports.com. George Fox leads the all-time series with the Beacons 20-4 (16-4 home, 6-4 road, 2-0 neutral), having won the last seven meetings between the two. The Bruins took a 78-76 win in Newberg on Dec. 2, 2008, in their last encounter. NCU’s last win in the series was 89-85 on Feb. 5, 2002, in Eugene. The Beacons, another NAIA opponent for the Bruins, were picked to finish eighth in the 10-team Cascade Collegiate Conference in the pre-season coaches’ poll. NCU is 3-2 on the season, with a 102-90 win at Willamette University in their last outing on Saturday. Six Beacons scored in double figures in that game, led by 6-6 forward Kellen Spicer with 23. Pre-season All-CCC 6-1 guard Quentin Guidry had 17, and 6-5 forward Cameron Marshall had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Spicer leads the team with 14.6 points and 7.8 rebounds a game, Guidry averages 12.8 points a game, and 6-6 forward Brent McKee is at 10.2 points a game. George Fox is led by 6-4 wings Mike Taylor and Cole Whitehurst, each averaging 21.5 points a game. Whitehurst leads the Bruins in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and has hit 17-22 from the line, including a 10-10 game vs. Northwest. Taylor, who played for two seasons at NCAA Division I Marist, went for 30 points in his first Bruins game vs. Corban and leads the team with six three-pointers. The Bruins have two other double-digit scorers in 6-7 center Rich Smith (18.0 ppg) and 5-9 point guard Stephen Wiseley (14.5 ppg). Smith scored 22 in the Northwest game, while Wiseley has averaged 8.0 assists in the first two games. George Fox coach Mark Sundquist 103-150 in his 11th season with the Bruins. Against Northwest Christian, he is 8-1 (4-0 home, 2-1 road, 2-0 neutral). Following the NCU game, the Bruins enter Northwest Conference play at Willamette on Tuesday, Nov. 30, and at Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, Dec. 4.
