(EUGENE, Ore.) - With Tuesday’s official home opener for the Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team comes the introduction of a new play-by-play broadcaster for all of the men’s and women’s basketball games for the 2010-2011 season. Danny Havel joins the team to lead the internet video broadcasts this year.

Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Head Coach Corey Anderson said, “We are very excited to have Danny Havel as our new ‘Voice of the Beacons.’ Danny has a wealth of experience ranging from high school sports to D-I intercollegiate. Our listening audience will thoroughly enjoy the picture that Danny paints while calling both men’s and women’s basketball home games. The passion and professionalism will come in clear from anywhere that you are dialed in from.”

Havel comes to NCU with 32 years of broadcasting history under his belt. A multiple award winner for his play-by-play in Oregon, Arizona, and Kansas, Danny began his career at the age of 15 under the tutelage of current Voice of the Ducks, Jerry Allen when they were both in Medford. Danny has called Professional Minor League Baseball with the Medford A’s, NCAA Division II, NAIA, and High School sports, including work as the Pregame and Postgame host of both the Oregon Ducks and Kansas State Wildcats.

His work has landed him honors as Sportscaster of the Year in both Oregon and Kansas and he has worked as the voice of the OSAA Football and Basketball Championships. Danny worked extensively with Marist High School as the Voice of the Spartans during 2003 through 2005. In his career, Danny has called an incredible 1,978 football, basketball, and baseball contests. He will cross the 2,000 game plateau this season with the Beacons.
