(AMITY, Ore.) - Friday morning about 8:45 a.m., OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on Highway 99W near milepost 42, one mile north of Amity and about 5 miles south of McMinnville. Police say preliminary investigation revealed a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling northbound and for unknown reasons, crossed the centerline and struck a 2006 Freightliner tractor towing a set of double trailers head-on. The driver of the Freightliner attempted to move to the right shoulder to avoid the collision, however was not able to do so. Seatbelts were worn by all occupants of the vehicles. The driver of the Ford, a 27-year old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The front right passenger of the Ford pickup, a 31-year-old male, was taken by ground ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville for treatment of minor injuries and released. The driver of the Freightliner, 67-year old Arvis A Lane, of Eugene, was treated for minor injuries at the Willamette Valley Medical Center and released. OSP was assisted by the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Amity Police Department, Amity Fire Department, McMinnville Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The family of the deceased was recently notified. His name will be released after sufficient time has passed for them to notify more family. This is an ongoing investigation.
