(Corvallis, Oregon) - Oregon State wrestling head coach Jim Zalesky announced Thursday that the Beavers have signed a third student-athlete to a National Letter of Intent for the 2011-12 season. Tarrence Williams, from Clackamas Community College, joins Roseburg High School seniors Seth Thomas and Drew Van Anrooy, who signed earlier this week. “Tarrence is one of those guys we watched when he was in high school,” Zalesky said. “He’s done well at Clackamas and is in a weight class we need. We feel that he can come in and contribute right away.” Williams is a sophomore this season for Clackamas and has competed at the 174-pound weight class. He won the Mike Clock Open two weeks back in Forest Grove, Ore. Williams was an All-American and Region 18 champion his freshman season, in 2009-10, when wrestling at 157. He was 23-8 last season and took fifth place at the 2010 NJCAA National Championships. Last season, en route to the fifth-place finish, Williams had winning streaks of six, five and five bouts, respectively, and tallied a fall and technical fall on the year. He opened his run at the NJCAA National Championships with a 20-3 technical fall, then went 3-2 over his next five bouts, which were all decisions. Williams came to Clackamas from Portland’s Jefferson High School, where he lettered all four years and placed highly at the state championships each year. He was first in the state championships as a junior (135-pound class), second as a sophomore and senior and fourth as a freshman. The Beavers are scheduled for a quad meet this Sunday in Columbia, Mo. Oregon State will take on Hofstra, Lindenwood and host Missouri starting at 11 a.m. PT. Make sure and check osubeavers.com for a full recap and list of results at the end of the meet.
