(SALEM) - Brian and Tammy Mumey placed bug bombs throughout their home due to an extreme ant problem. They left their home at approximately 5:30 PM to stay with friends for the evening. Salem Fire Department received the call for a structure fire at 225 Stark Street N. at 10:50 PM Tuesday. The first-alarm sent 3 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, and a Battalion Chief. First arriving fire fighters reported flames shooting out the front and side windows. A second alarm was called bringing more fire fighters and apparatus to the scene. Firefighters aggressively battled the blaze that almost spread throughout the entire home, but fire crews were able contain the fire to the front portion of the home.

Firefighters had the fire under control within 10 minutes of their arrival.

Although firefighters were able to contain the fire to the living room, the heat and smoke had spread to all other portions of the home.

Investigators determine the fire started in the living room in southwest corner. An exact cause has not been determined. The Mumeys are planning to stay with family and friends.
