(ALBANY) - The Albany City Council will hold a public hearing at its next regular meeting at 7:15 PM, Wednesday, to consider whether it is timely to sell property that consists of 100.2 acres of land and a single-family home located north of Albany near Jefferson.

The city bought the property on March 1st, 2002, to gain access to the Santiam River and a new intake for drinking water to supply the Albany-Millersburg Joint Water Treatment Plant.

The plant was built on the site of an old rock quarry several miles to the west of the intake and has been providing drinking water to both cities since it was completed in October 2005. The city originally purchased 104.4 acres, and will retain ownership to about 4 acres where the intake, pumping station, and utility easements are located.

The remaining 100.2 acres are zoned for exclusive farm use.

The property includes former owner’s 2,845 square foot split-level house, built in 1977, with attached garage and carport, overlooking the river.

The city recently received an unsolicited offer for the property and has had inquiries from other interested persons over the years.

Anyone who is interested in the property should contact Mike Wolski, Assistant Public Works Director/Operations, at (541) 917-7608
