Outages in the Portland General Electric system are down from a peak of about 8,000 earlier in the day

Power is out around the Northwest due to the storm.

(SALEM) - PGE: Outages in the Portland General Electric system are at a relatively low number this hour, 330, down from a peak of about 8,000 earlier in the day.

Outages are widely scattered throughout the east side of the Portland Metro Area, with a few dozen in Salem and Scotts Mill.

Given the forecast of continued heavy rains that will soften the soil around tree roots, more power outages may occur through the night.

PGE reminds the public: If you see a downed line, don't touch it, don't even go near it. Assume its alive and dangerous and call PGE. If there are additional public safety issues, call 9-1-1 too.

PGE outage lines: Portland calling area: 503-464-7777, Salem calling area 503-399-7717, elsewhere: 1-800-544-1795.
