Nov-06-2006 23:52TweetFollow @OregonNews Salem Downtown Association Releases DVD (VIDEO)Bonnie King, Salem-News.comIntroducing a presentation demonstrating the longstanding combination of art and history found in Salem's downtown
(SALEM) - Few American cities have the intimate, historic downtown setting that Oregon’s capitol city has kept for so long. No major rush, safe streets, free parking and a new convention center are just a few of the amenities that this architecturally significant NW city offers, mixed with the natural beauty of the lush Oregon landscape. The Salem Downtown Association and Salem Electric wanted to let the world know more about the confluence of history and art in Oregon’s capitol city, so they contracted Rebecca Maitland of Western Media and Tim King of Northwind Video Artists to produce a two and a half-minute documentary style video/DVD. Several weeks were spent in shooting and production, featuring many of the downtown area’s finer points. These range from the beauty of the early buildings, to the convenience of the downtown layout, shopping opportunities, respect for and inclusion of the natural environment and of course the many expressions of art present throughout downtown. The video will be available on a number of Websites in Salem and Oregon and beyond. The DVDs will also be produced and utilized by downtown merchants to promote the quality and character of the downtown Salem experience and provide visitors a reason to place Salem, Oregon in their travel plans. It's a short distance for such a long journey back in time, with all the amenities of today's modern world at your fingertips. Salem. Salem's Historic Downtown Produced by Tim King & Rebecca Maitland Edited by Bonnie King Made possible by a matching grant from the City of Salem and Salem Electric. Many Local people do not know how to access all that downtown has to offer. Therefore, downtown is easy to judge in a negative way. People/visitors from all over the world do not limit Salem's potential. They accept it as a city filled with talent and beauty a great place to visit or live.

Is "Liberatum" like "liberation" ? Ran into that Down South...very invigorating.

And if for some reason you find yourself doing quantum leaps into the eccestential part of your neibhors backyard with an iflux of Liberatum I would totally agree with you Henry.

Don't recall other newspaper ever doing community-service work of this level, at this low cost, do you ?? Usual benefit-ratio on such figured about 50-1 for dollar cost, when done at this quality level, based on professonal consultant experience.

Hey downtown lover without a name, you are short sighted at best, sorry your efforts to lock Salem into obscurity aren't more successful... We are extremely proud to have produced this and the only sad (and offensive and snide) thing I see is your comment. You have every right to say what you want here, but you are offensive. I seriously doubt that you have any idea how far this puts Salem in front of other similar places that have no video, let alone one that has drawn so many compliments.

Excellent production builds strong-and-true image of a city whose many strengths and beauties we often overlook, as O/S reminds us. Thank you for fine skills, finely combined, with each element adding to total composition and communication.

Maybe silly, but I never thought of Salem as very historic before. Now I'll try to look up at those buildings while I walk past. They're outlived so many generations, what stories they could tell! Beautiful video, I'm sending the link to all my friends looking for their next day trip excursion.

What a sad representation of our City! Downtown parking money would be better spent on making parking facilities safe and attractive to shoppers!
