Salem Police Welcomes Five New Officers, One New Community Service Officer

(SALEM, Oregon) - The Salem Police Department welcomed five new sworn Police Officers and one non-sworn Community Service Officer on November 1st. These new team members were hired to fill current, existing vacancies within the agency.

Officer Darren Buchholz was born and raised in Dallas, Oregon. He served in the Oregon Army National Guard for six and one-half years and was deployed to Iraq in 2004. Officer Buchholz most recently worked for the Independence Police Department for the past four and one-half years.

Officer Andrew Johnson was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and moved to Oregon in 1998. He first worked for the Tigard Police Department and has worked with the Stayton Police Department for the past four and one-half years.

Officer Matt Gill was raised in South Salem and is a graduate of Sprague High School and Western Oregon University. While attending Western Oregon University, he worked for the Salem Police Department as a Community Service Officer. Officer Gill has worked for the Lake Oswego Police Department since 2006.

Officer Joshua Jaquith was raised in Newberg, Oregon. He spent five years in the US Marines and was assigned posts in Mississippi and California. He obtained his Associates Degree while in the Marines and is currently working towards his Bachelor's Degree.

Officer KJ McCrae was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Santa Rosa, California. He moved to Oregon when he was 15 years old and graduated from McNary High School. Officer McCrea attended Santa Rosa Junior College and transferred to Portland State University where he played football and graduated in 2008. He has been volunteering at McKay High School where he has helped with the football team and has also been working at the West Salem Boys and Girls' Club.

Community Services Officer Lewis Menges was born in North Carolina and moved to Oregon in 1995. He graduated from Western Mennonite High School and attended Corban University for one year while volunteering with the Salem Police Department as a Cadet. He is working on completing his Bachelor's Degree.

The Salem Police Department welcomes these new team members, and all will be assigned to the Field Operations/Patrol Division.
