(PORTLAND, Ore.) - A Grand Jury is set to hear the case against a 15-year old juvenile November 9th, who was arrested after an attack with a baseball bat on a 71-year old man last week in Portland. The attack happened near the Gresham Central Transit Center at 400 NE 8th. 71-year old Laurie Lee Chilcote of Sandy was riding the same eastbound train as the suspect and the attack occurred shortly after both got off the train, police said. Responding Officers found Chilcote lying near the train tracks at the transit center. K-9 Officer Shaun Debler spotted the suspect a few blocks away and took him into custody. After interviews, Detectives charged 15-year old Abel Antonie Chavez-Garcia with First Degree Assault, Attempted Murder and First Degree Criminal Mischief. The last charge results from witnesses having seen the suspect spray-painting graffiti at a previous MAX stop. At this point, the victim remains in the hospital, recovering from his injuries. He has been moved from the Neurological Intensive Care Unit, where he had originally been admitted, and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect remains in Donald E Long Juvenile facility. He has not yet been arraigned. Articles for November 4, 2007 | Articles for November 5, 2007 | Articles for November 6, 2007 | Support Salem-News.com: Quick Links
