(SALEM) - NO METH volunteers took their fight to the streets this week as they canvassed downtown Salem businesses to educate merchants on the identity theft initiative and also distribute the newly developed “WARNING- For your protection, we ask for ID” stickers. These black and white “WARNING” stickers were given to over 60 businesses who pledged to enact or enforce policies requiring photo ID with debit and/or credit transactions. According to local police, identity theft is running rampant through our community and is still a major funding source for methamphetamine users and distributors. With holiday shopping just around the corner, the local NO METH business committee hit the streets to promote the identity theft initiative, which advocates say is aimed at partnering businesses with consumers in the fight against ID theft. The stickers that are placed on entry windows, notify consumers that they will be protected at that particular location. For more information and training or to obtain a free window sticker stating your partnership with consumers, please contact Lisa Miller, Program Director for Community Action Drug Prevention Network, at 503-585-6232 or you can email her at: millerl@mwvcaa.org.
