LENGTH: 3:18 THE MARION COUNTY SHERIFF`S OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING A TRAGIC ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED TUESDAY MORNING ON BREITENBUSCH RD NEAR DETROIT. SHERIFF`S SPOKESMAN KEVIN RAU SAYS BASED ON THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION, 38-YEAR-OLD VLADIMIR GORKAVCHENKO OF SALEM, HIS WIFE AND THEIR THEIR 7-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER WERE HEADING DOWN BREITENBUSCH RD WHEN HE APPARENTLY LOST CONTROL OF HIS MINIVAN ON A SHARP CURVE CAUSING THE VAN TO LEAVE THE ROAD, ROLL MULTIPLE TIMES, AND GO DOWN A ROCKY EMBANKBANK. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH. GORKAVCHENKO APPARENTLY REMOVED A LARGE CALIBER RIFLE FROM THE VAN TO TAKE WITH THE FAMILY HAS THEY TRIED TO CLIMB OUT OF THE RAVINE. USING THE RIFLE AS A BRACE, HE APPARENTLY SLIPPED, CAUSING THE GUN TO SLIDE OUT OF HIS GRIP. THE GUN FIRED AT HIT HIM IN THE THUMB AND HEAD. RAU SAID IT IS STILL UNCLEAR IF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CRASH, OR TRAGIC ACCIDENT. A U.S ARMY FIELD MEDIC FROM ESTACADA, JEREMY LOVELESS, WAS KILLED IN IRAQ NEAR MOSUL A FAMILY MEMBER SAID TUESDAY. LOVELESS HAD HELD DIFFERENT JOBS IN THE ESTACADA AREA, AND WAS TRAINING TO BECOME A PARAMEDIC IN CIVILIAN LIFE. LOVELESS LEAVES BEHIND A WIFE AND 4-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER. LOVELESS WAS THE 61ST PERSON FROM OREGON, OR WITH CLOSE TIES TO OREGON, TO DIE IN IRAQ OR AFGANISTAN. SALEM POLICE ARE ASKING FOR THE PUBLIC`S HELP IN LOCATING A MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY SHOT ANOTHER MAN EARLY MONDAY MORNING AT THE ROYAL OAKS APARTMENTS IN NORTHEAST SALEM. 24-YEAR-OLD BRANDON BROWN OF SALEM, WAS TREATED FOR A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE LEFT SHOULDER AND RELEASED FROM SALEM HOSPITAL MONDAY. POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR 47-YEAR-OLD DAVID MANTOOTH OF SALEM IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTING, OR KNOWS THE WHEREABOUTS OF MANTOOTH IS URGED TO CONTACT SALEM POLICE AT (503) 588-6123. NEARLY TWO OF EVERY THREE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS ARE GOING INTO DEBT TO GO TO COLLEGE “ OWING AN AVERAGE OF MORE THAN 19-THOUSAND DOLLARS. AND MOST OFTEN IT`S TO THE GOVERNMENT. AMONG THE DOZEN STATES SAMPLED, NEW YORK STUDENTS AVERAGED THE LARGEST LOANS, WHILE THOSE IN OREGON AND MINNESOTA WERE MOST LIKELY TO HAVE BORROWED. ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, ABOUT 65 PERCENT OF STUDENTS WHO GRADUATED IN THE 2003-2004 SCHOOL YEAR DID SO AFTER GETTING STUDENT LOANS. IN OREGON AND MINNESOTA, THREE OF EVERY FOUR UNDERGRADUATES GOT LOANS. OFFICIALS IN BOTH STATES SAID THAT WAS DUE TO STATE BUDGET CUTS.
