Letter to the Editor: Oregon's Cruel and Unusual Punishment

One has to wonder what has happened to the courts and the lawyers serving those courts in dear old Oregon.

(REGINA, Saskatchewan) - A young man in Hermiston fights and has fought the justice system since he was arrested at 19! No DNA evidence was presented… the girls never went for a medical and as I’m told others were threatened to keep their nose out of the matter!

Strange indeed as Colton Calhoun has vehemently denied having sexual contact With the girl! He was sentenced to eight years in prison. Now fast forward Just a bit…..another young man from the same area has much the same problems.

He too denied the claims against him.

He knew of Colton’s plight and after being pressured opted to plead! No Prison for this dude but he was saddled with severe restrictions. His friends left their Playboy magazines at his apartment causing problems with his parole Officer. After a light prison sentence this young man opted to Abscond. His parents knew nothing and were worried sick!

Now head to late 2010.

He was finally re-arrested… you would assume the system would throw The book at him but NO…. he’s inside till 2012… and get this will be Released sooner than Colton!

I shake my head in disbelief! Colton fights and has fought since his arrest That he is not guilty. It seems in dear old Oregon, if you make life hard For the justice system…. You will pay! His friends know well the girl Involved and how she used the words “do me or I scream rape”. Nice girl, He?

Fairness... not in my mind! One’s rights get trampled on, in my opinion. If The investigators in Colton’s case had done their job they would have seen That threats and intimidation were at play. No, in my opinion they were Solely determined to get a conviction.

I dare suggest in the case of the Other young man had investigators been as ruthless with the supposed victims They too would have determined tall tales were at play!

Colton is still in prison right now! He needs your help. How? Get up off that nice chair and call your elected rep!

Complain like there is no tomorrow. Why? Listen, if you have a son or a friend who has one you need to do this to ensure the justice system is fair.

Enough... is enough! It costs millions to build prisons. It costs more millions to staff them. Yes, prisons are needed for the guilty ! We do more for those awaiting a death sentence!!!

Please get up and take action NOW. If you don’t what other laws could be shuffled and affect you directly? Oh yes it can happen when we become complacent and the fight then is much, much harder!!
