(SALEM) - The City of Salem's Public Works Department will celebrate National Public Works Week by hosting its third annual Public Works Day at Riverfront Park Thursday, from 10:30 AM until 2:00 PM.

The purpose of the event is to give the community a better understanding of what public works employees do and to offer an opportunity to view the equipment and systems used to get the work done.

A variety of equipment that city crews use to operate and maintain the City of Salem's water, sewer, storm, and transportation systems will be on display.

There will also be booths presenting information on community and city programs as well as other Riverfront Park attractions including: A.C. Gilberts' Discovery Village, The Willamette Queen, and Salem's Riverfront Carousel.

Other highlights this year include Claudia, the 29-foot Chinook salmon, a variety of activities for children, and of course — free food.

There is no charge for attending, but canned food or cash donations to the Marion-Polk Food Share are encouraged.
