MORE THAN 950 OREGON NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS HAVE COMPLETED TRAINING IN MISSISSIPPI AND WILL NOW HEAD FOR AFGHANISTAN.

THE 41ST BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM WILL SPEND A YEAR TRAINING AFGHAN TROOPS.

NOT SINCE WORLD WAR II HAD THE BRIGADE “ OR SO MANY CITIZEN SOLDIERS FROM OREGON “ BEEN SENT INTO A COMBAT ZONE.

A THREE-ALARM FIRE AT A VACANT INDUSTRIAL BUILDING ON SATURDAY IN ALBANY IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS SUSPICIOUS.

THE ALBANY FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE OFFERING A FIVE-THOUSAND DOLLAR REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO AN ARREST.

INVESTIGATORS ARE ALSO TRYING TO TRACK DOWN STILL PHOTOGRAPHS OR HOME VIDEO OF THE FIRE.

TRAVEL WILL BE UP SLIGHTLY THIS MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY DESPITE HIGH GAS PRICES.

AAA ESTIMATES THAT NEARLY 38 MILLION AMERICANS WILL TRAVEL 50 MILES OR MORE FROM HOME THIS YEAR OVER 2005.

APPROXIMATELY 31 MILLION TRAVELERS ARE EXPECTED TO GO BY MOTOR VEHICLE, 4 MILLION BY PLANE, AND 2 MILLION VACATIONERS WILL TRAVEL BY TRAIN, BUS, OR OTHER MODE OF TRANSPORTATION.

SUMMER HOURS ARE SET TO BEGIN ON SUNDAY AT THE SALEM PUBLIC LIBRARY.

THE LIBRARY WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS FROM MAY 28TH THROUGH LABOR DAY.

SUNDAY HOURS WILL RESUME ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH.

SUMMER HOURS ARE 1:00 TO 5:00 PM.

THE MARION COUNTY FAIR IS LOOKING FOR TEENS WHO WANT A CHANCE TO SHOW OFF THEIR MUSICAL TALENTS AND WIN UP TO $1,000 DOLLARS.

THE EXTREME TEEN BAND CHALLENGE IS A FEATURED EVENT OF EXTREME TEEN CHALLENGE DAY ON FRIDAY JULY 14TH.
