(SALEM) - Here are some of today's stories, with Kevin Hays reporting... LENGTH: 2:31 THE PARENTS OF A DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED TEENAGER HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AFTER AN ARSON FIRE KILLED THEIR SON. POLICE SAY 19-YEAR-OLD CHRISTOPHER DEGROOT WAS HOME AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. HE WAS UNABLE TO ESCAPE THE BLAZE BECAUSE HE HAD BEEN LOCKED INSIDE THE APARTMENT BY HIS PARENTS. DEGROOT`S PARENTS, 45-YEAR-OLD AGNES, AND 45-YEAR-OLD NICOLAS ARE LODGED AT THE LINN COUNTY JAIL ON ARSON AND MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES. PERSONAL INFORMATION, INCLUDING SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS OF 26.5 MILLION US VETERANS, WAS STOLEN FROM A VETERANS AFFAIRS EMPLOYEE THIS MONTH AFTER HE TOOK THE INFORMATION HOME WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION, VETERANS AFFAIRS SECRETARY JIM NICHOLSON SAID THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE SO FAR THAT THE BURGLARS WHO STRUCK THE EMPLOYEES HOME USED THE PERSONAL DATA, OR EVEN KNOW THEY HAVE IT. THE NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION IS PREDICTING ANOTHER VERY ACTIVE HURRICANE SEASON. FORECASTERS ARE PREDICITNG THAT THERE WILL BE 13 TO 16 TROPICAL STORMS OR HURRICANES, AND THAT EIGHT TO TEN COULD BECOME MAJOR HURRICANES. TRAVEL WILL BE UP SLIGHTLY THIS MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY DESPITE HIGH GAS PRICES. AAA ESTIMATES THAT NEARLY 38 MILLION AMERICANS WILL TRAVEL 50 MILES OR MORE FROM HOME THIS YEAR OVER 2005. ODOT IS WARNING TRAVELERS HITTING THE ROAD THIS WEEK FOR THE UPCOMING MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TO EXPECT HEAVY CONGESTION AND NUMEROUS WORK ZONES ALONG THE I-5 CORRIDOR. TRANSPORTATION AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS ARE REMINDING TRAVELERS TO BE PATIENT, SLOW DOWN, LEAVE PLENTY OF SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE VEHILCE IN FRONT OF YOU, AND ALLOW EXTRA TRAVEL TIME FOR UNEXPECTED DELAYS. MOTORISTS CAN CHECK WWW.TRIPCHECK.COM OR CALL 511 FOR THE LATEST TRAFFIC INFORMATION. A THREE-ALARM FIRE AT A VACANT INSUSTRIAL BUILDING ON SATURDAY IN ALBANY IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS SUSPICIOUS. THE ALBANY FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE OFFERING A FIVE-THOUSAND DOLLAR REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO AN ARREST. THE US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DID NOT RECOMMED OREGON`S APPLICATION FOR A GROWTH MODEL. THE NEWS WILL REQUIRE OREGON TO CONTINUE TO USE THE CURRENT SYSTEM OF ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS. UNDER AYP, SCHOOLS MUST GET 50 PERCENT OF ALL STUDENTS TO STATE STANDARDS IN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS, AND 49 PERCENT TO STATE STANDARDS IN MATH.
