Commemorate the Innocent

ACT NOW continues to work side by side with Tamils.

Tamil Genocide
The Tamil Genocide is represented by thousands of photos and a large amount of video and witness testimony.

(CHENNAI, India) - This year the Tamil community and their friends are commemorating the genocidal massacre of Tamils that took place in Mullivaikal in May 2009 in a week of action and activities. Act Now will be attending the two large rallies that are to take place this weekend.

Firstly, on Friday (18th) there is a open-air meeting at SKLP Sports and Community Centre, West End Road, Northolt, Middlesex, UB5 6RE. It will start at 5pm and finish at 8pm.

Secondly, on Saturday (19th) there is another open-air meeting at Trafalgar Square, Central London also from 5pm until 8pm.

All events seek to highlight the war crimes, crimes against humanity and Genocide committed against innocent Tamils civilians by the Sri Lankan Government and its armed forces.

Act Now Tim Martin will also report on the anti-deportation work that he and the organisation has been involved in over the last year. We hope to share with you a report in due course. We hope to see you at either or at both events!

A GLIMMER OF HOPE?

The UNHRC decision in Geneva in February was the first time an official UN body had demanded Sri Lanka take action on the way it treats the Tamil community. The resolution at the UN Human Rights Council was approved with 24 countries in favour and 15 against. Eight countries (mainly African ones with their own skeletons) abstained from voting.

Although the resolution only talked about SL acting upon its own LLRC report which does not deal with war crimes, the world and SL will still see it as a demand that SL must investigate WC! Of course they will do no such thing but this is a small step towards bringing the world on side and applying ever greater pressure on SL.

Ultimately this may result in an overthrow of the regime, war crimes for the deposed rulers and an opportunity for Tamils to negotiate their own future.

It might one day be seen as the catalyst to eventual justice? Either way ACT NOW will continue to work side by side with Tamils to obtain that end.
