(OREGON CITY) - An incident in Oregon City Thursday involving an injured mother and her small child could have gone a couple of different ways, but it ended in the survival of both, thanks to Oregon City Police Officer Doug Diller. Around 4:42 PM Thursday, 27-year old Carman Cruz of Sherwood and her two-year old son were struck by a boat and trailer being backed into the water on the boat ramp at Clackamette Park in Oregon City. Oregon City Police Lt. Lisa Nunes, says Officer Doug Diller was on patrol at the park when he heard yelling from the area of the boat ramp. "Officer Diller observed Ms. Cruz under the boat trailer face down in the water. Officer Diller held Ms. Cruz's head out of the water until she could be freed." Casey Akin from Oregon City witnessed the incident and pulled Ms. Cruz's two year old child from the water. Both victims received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to OHSU by ambulance where they are being treated. The operator of the vehicle and boat trailer has not been cited. Nice job, Doug! The Diller family has a lot to be proud of with our kids. You can only imagine how proud Grandpa and Grandma would be of you. Needless to say, I am extremely proud of you, too.
