Salem-News.com

(West Salem) - A Salem man died early Monday morning after his vehicle left the highway, struck the front porch area of a residence and rolled over several times.

Around 1:40 AM, a 1985 Chevrolet pickup driven by 53-year old James M. Swearingen of Salem was northbound on Highway 221- Wallace Road, near milepost 10.

Police say his pickup left the roadway, struck the front porch area of a house located at 24900 Wallace Road rolling over several times and stopping in a field next to the residence.

Investigators say there was no one at the residence at that time. Swearingen was pronounced deceased at the scene. It isn't clear at this point whether he was wearing a seat belt/safety restraint.

Oregon State Police troopers from the McMinnville office are completing the investigation. ODOT and members of the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
