(JUNCTION, TX) - A man who escaped from an Oregon correctional facility has been captured by deputies in Texas. 31-year old Matthew Brian Jones was arrested by Kimball County, Texas Sheriff's deputies as he slept in his father's car in a Junction, Texas, rest area. Information provided by the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit led to the capture of the minimum-security inmate, who escaped from custody May 5th. Department of Corrections investigators say clues led to the suspicion that Jones was using his father's car. Lead investigator Robert Bothwell uncovered enough information to be able to attach the vehicle information to the fugitive warrant. An alert Kimball County deputy sheriff noted the car in the rest area, ran the plates, and discovered the warrant. Deputies surrounded the car, awakened Jones, and arrested him without incident. Jones was serving time for Theft I and Burglary II convictions from 2004 convictions in Multnomah County. He had concurrent probation sentences from Washington County for Supplying False Information, Theft I and Driving While Suspended/Revoked. His projected release date had been December 2007. Court proceedings are being initiated to return Jones to Oregon to face additional charges related to the escape. Additionally, Jones' father, 65-year old George Leroy Jones, was arrested May 7th by Yamhill County Sheriff's deputies on charges related to helping his son flee from Oregon.
