Sex Abuse Investigation Leads to Arrest of Albany Teacher

(ALBANY) - A St. Mary`s Catholic School teacher has been arrested by Albany Police on charges of subjecting an 8-year old girl to sexual abuse in his classroom.

28-year old Albany resident Ty Walter Topper, a teacher at St. Mary`s, was arrested Tuesday at 5:20 PM after Albany Police received a report from the Department of Human Services (DHS) regarding the sex abuse allegations.

St. Mary`s Catholic School is located at 822 SW Ellsworth Street in Albany.

Albany Police Detectives say they began an immediate investigation leading them to believe that Topper, a computer teacher at St. Mary`s Catholic School, subjected an 8-year old female student to sexual contact on two occasions.

The alleged sexual contact took place in class on Tuesday, May 9th, 2006.

Albany Police Detectives arrested Ty Walter Topper and transported him to the Linn County Jail around 11:00 PM Tuesday, on two counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree.
