(SALEM) - A Salem Police Officer was involved in an on-duty shooting on the evening of May 9 in northeast Salem. Officer Trevor Morrison, a 12-year veteran of the Salem Police, made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Watson Ave NE near Alameda St NE at approximately 10:07 pm. A cover officer was requested, a foot pursuit ensued and shortly thereafter shots were fired and the suspect was wounded. Officer Morrison is a canine officer, and his canine, Baco, was also involved in the pursuit. Officers administered emergency first aid to the suspect until medics could arrive, and the suspect was transported to Salem Hospital and was declared deceased at the hospital. The deceased suspect in this case has been identified as 25-year Jacklynn Rashaun Ford. Her next of kin has been notified. As officers were attending to the suspect and securing the scene, a firearm was recovered from where the suspect was located. Neither Officer Morrison nor Baco were injured in incident. Officer Morrison will be placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure following an incident of this nature. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. The investigation will be conducted by the Oregon State Police and the Marion County District Attorney's Office, who are currently on the scene. This is standard procedure for the Salem Police Department to request the Oregon State Police conduct an independent investigation into incidents of this nature.
