(DALLAS) - Polk County residents can get rid of household hazardous waste Saturday between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the Polk Count Public Works facility.

Along with the cities of Dallas, Independence, Monmouth and Salem, Polk County is co-sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection event from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday.

The event allows residents to bring their hazardous household chemicals such as unwanted pesticides, herbicides, oil-based paint, acids, caustic cleaners, and other toxic household chemicals for free disposal.

Residents may dispose for free, business and farms may pay a fee and must pre-register by calling 1-253-288-2813.

Bring in your mercury fever thermometer and receive a free digital thermometer in exchange.

The event will be held at the Polk County Public Works facility, 820 SW Ash Street.
