Single Vehicle Fatal Crash East of Elkton

(ELKTON, Oregon) - Today at about 2:30 AM, Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on SR 138W near milepost 4, which is just east of Elkton. 138 West is a linking State Route between the Oregon Coast city of Reedsport and Sutherlin on Interstate 5.

The evidence at the crash scene indicates that a vehicle was westbound on SR 138 West when for an unknown reason it left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire. There was a single occupant who was declared deceased at the scene. The vehicle was totally consumed by the subsequent fire.

The driver's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

OSP is continuing the investigation.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and Kellogg Volunteer Fire assisted at the scene.

Update:
The evidence at the crash scene indicates that a vehicle, operated by Steven M. Taylor, age 51, from Yakima, Washington was westbound on SR 138 West when for an unknown reason it left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire. Taylor was declared deceased at the scene. The vehicle was totally consumed by the subsequent fire.

Taylor's next of kin have been notified.

OSP is continuing the investigation.
