(PORTLAND AP) - People from Oregon and Washington can help the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp out Hunger by placing food donations by their mailbox next Saturday, May 13th.

Close to three-thousand letter carriers throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington, will join with letter carriers across America. They will collect donations of nonperishable food from their postal customers during the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.

Watch your mailbox for two special items: a card, announcing the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive and a plastic bag, donated by Fred Meyer.

Fill the bag with nutritious, nonperishable food such as tuna fish, peanut butter, soups, stews, chili, canned fruits, vegetables, beans, rice and pasta. Do NOT include glass items, home-made items or previously opened containers.

Then place the filled bag by your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 13th.

Last year's food drive generated more than one-point-three million pounds of food throughout Oregon and southwest Washington.
