(SALEM) - The Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 290, is now offering free training, apprenticeship programs and job placement to veterans looking to make a career change. No experience is needed to receive the free training at one of nine schools statewide. "These schools always cost a lot of money," said Bill McMichael, a member of Local 290 and proponent of the free schooling offer. “We want veterans to receive this free training to help them begin a new, good paying career, and we'll help them find work." McMichael added that when veterans complete their training, 18 months will be removed from a typical 4 to 5 year apprenticeship program. Upon completion of their training, new apprentices can choose to become a plumber or a pipe fitter. For more information about the free training program, call Local 290 at (800) 452-2912 or McMichael at (503) 931-2135. The nine schools are located in: Tualatin, Salem, Dallas, Coos Bay, Eugene, Medford, Redmond, Brookings, Kalamath Falls.
