Passenger Dies in Rollover Crash South of Salem

(SALEM) - A single vehicle roll over crash occurred at approximately 1020 pm on April 29th at mile point 242 on Interstate 5, South of Salem. Police say a 2003 Nissan Altima struck the median guardrail and rolled over ejecting several of the occupants.

Police are working to confirm the age of the driver, Carlos Cabrera of Baldwin Park, Ca, who sustained minor injuries. A female passenger, 21-year old Mayra Hinojosa, sustained serious injuries. Both Cabrera and Hinojosa were transported to Salem Hospital.

Another passenger, 38-year old Roberto Miguel Cabrera, was transported to Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis with critical injuries.

Oregon State Police were notified that he died Sunday morning approximately 6:52 a.m. He reportedly was the driver's father.

The driver, who is the victim's son, is being detained at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center pending confirmation of his age and case review with the Marion County District Attorney's Office.

Following medical treatment, Cabrera was detained on numerous criminal charges including Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Criminal Mischief and Assault. Oregon State Police are attempting to confirm his true date of birth.

The investigation is being continued by members of the Oregon State Police Salem Area Command office.
