(SALEM) - Yesterday at approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Team responded to the 9800 block of River Road NE, near Keizer. The investigation conducted by Traffic Safety Team Deputies has determined that the 2013 Cadillac, driven by Loyd Penner, age 86, of Dallas was slowing and preparing to make a left hand turn into Egan Gardens.

For unknown reasons Mr. Penner turned in front of a gray Toyota (Scion), being driven southbound by Adan Ortiz-Juarez, age 41, of Salem. After the two vehicles collided they careened into a third vehicle that was waiting to leave Egan Gardens. The third vehicle a tan Toyota, was being operated by Julie Huster, age 54 of Salem.

Neither Mr. Ortiz-Juarez nor Ms. Huster were injured in the collision. Tragically Mr. Penner's wife Lavaughn Penner, age 85 was killed in the collision, she was riding in the front passenger seat during the crash.

Airbags did deploy in Mr. Penner's and Mr. Ortiz-Juarez vehicles. All parties involved in the crash were wearing both lap and shoulder seat belts.

As a result of the collision all three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Deputies will determine over the next days whether any drivers will be cited for any driving offenses. There is no further information available regarding this incident.
