(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are investigating the death of 16-year old Jeremy Duane Wescott of Otis, who died Tuesday afternoon from fatal injuries in a single vehicle crash on Highway 18 east of Highway 101.

Sadly, this is the second day in a row that a fatal crash happened in the Otis/Rose Lodge area. State troopers say preliminary investigation indicates that Tuesday at approximately 1:00 PM, a 2000 Ford F250 pickup driven by Jeremy Wescott was westbound on a straight stretch of Highway 18 near milepost 3.5 when it left the north side of the highway, traveled through a wide shoulder pullout, and crashed head-on with a tree.

He was found by a witness, lying on the ground next to the pickup.

Jeremy was transported by ambulance to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City where he died around 4:00 PM.

Jeremy Duane Wescott was a junior at Taft High School. School administrators have been advised of this incident. Oregon State Police troopers from the Newport Area Command office, with the assistance of the Lincoln County Crash Team, are continuing the investigation. ODOT and local emergency responders assisted at the scene.

Too bad they held Jeremy at North Lincoln Hospital for three hours, when a 30 minute life flight to Portland would have saved his life. Jeremy died because he crashed in Lincoln County, not from his injuries.

yes there was a small fire under the truck, another bystander put it out.

How unfortunate. Please don't take this the wrong way as I am genuinly interested in the answer, but.. were there circumstances that warrented a bystander removing the victim from the crashed truck? It doesn't look like it caught fire from the picture. I agree it is a Godsend to have people that care and stop to help. As someone who deals with these things on a regular basis, I am curious if any circumstances inside the truck put this victim in imminent danger. Once again, my condolences to family/friends, and appreciation to those that stopped to help.

My daughter Tiffany dated this young man at one time. It's very sad that God's precious gift can be taken away so fast. Jeremy we are going to miss you dearly.
