Evergreen Aviation Museum Offers Aviation Summer Camp for Local StudentsSalem-News.com
Summer camps at the Evergreen Aviation Museum explore the history and science of flight.
(MCMINNVILLE) - Since the beginning of time, man has dreamed of joining the birds in flight and has looked to the sky as a source of inspiration. This summer, at the Evergreen Aviation Museum and the Captain Michael King Smith Educational Institute, area students will have the opportunity to participate in multiple summer camps to rediscover this fascination with flight.
The Museum is hosting four summer day camps where students will have fun learning about the science and history of flight while building gliders, airplanes, rockets and flying radio controlled (RC) aircraft. All of this will take place among the museum`s collection of over 80 historic aircraft and exhibits. The day camps are offered in June, July, and August and run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Each camp is specific to a particular age group. The June 20th camp is for 3rd-6th graders, June 27th is for 5th-8th graders, July 11 is for 9th-12th graders, and August 1st is for 5th-8th graders. The cost for the day camps is $95 for members and $100 for non-members and will include breakfast, lunch, snacks, and all necessary supplies.
The Evergreen Aviation Museum will also be hosting three overnight camps in conjunction with Seattle`s Museum of Flight. Students will spend the first part of the day at the Evergreen Museum where they will build and fly RC aircraft and an Estes Firehawk rocket.
Then, students will travel to the Seattle Museum of Flight for a night tour and camp out in the Red Barn, Boeing`s first aircraft factory. The overnight camps are offered in August and run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM the following day. August 9th-10th is for 9th-12th graders, August 16th-17th is for 5th-8th graders, and August 23rd-24th is for 5th-8th graders. The cost is $200 for members and $225 for non-members and includes all meals, snacks as well as rockets and modeling supplies.
