Excessive speed appears to be a factor.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A semi-truck carrying a load of lumber southbound on the Salem Parkway tipped over at Commercial St NE spilling its load.

Just after 3:00 PM, 46-year old Douglas Barnes, from Amity, was operating the 1985 Peterbilt pulling two flat bed trailers loaded with lumber. The truck rolled over as he was southbound on the Salem Parkway negotiating the curve onto Commercial St NE.

Barnes was not injured in the crash. The truck leaked diesel fuel and the lumber spilled onto the roadway and into a manufactured home park.

The crash also sheared off a power pole. Emergency crews are on scene, but it will be a significant amount of time before it is cleaned up.

The accident is under investigation; however, it appears excessive speed was a major factor.

Diesel fuel spilled on the roadway. Two of three lanes were blocked. Motorists were asked to take alternative routes while first responders worked to clean it up.
