(SALEM) - A program that has been providing free lunches to low-income, school-age children at risk of hunger during Spring Break week in the Salem/Keizer area since 1993 in expanding to rural Marion and Polk counties.

In recent years, it has also expanded to include giving away free books.

Marion-Polk Food Share raises the funds necessary to cover all the costs of providing this much-needed service to area children. The funds come through the generosity of MPFS donors.

This year partners in this effort include Boys and Girls Clubs of Salem, Salem-Keizer School District, Salem Housing Authority, Roth's-Your Family Market stores and Sodexho USA.

Volunteers are essential to No Hungry Child, serving as drivers, distributing fliers, working as food handlers, distributing books. The program could not exist without these vital community helpers.

During Spring Break, any child 18 and younger in the Salem-Keizer area can eat for free.

Even if not a member, any child may go to a Boys and Girls Club site to receive a free lunch.

Lunch is served from noon to 12:30 p.m.
