(SALEM) - Hundreds are expected to gather at the Oregon State capitol tonight at 6:00 PM for a special candlelight vigil honoring those who have died in combat overseas.

candleSponsored by the anti-war activist group moveon.org, the event is a chance for people to gather and share a solemn moment and words of unity. A spokesperson says the event marks an anniversary.

"Four years ago today, our invasion of Iraq began. Our presence in Iraq is now exacerbating a bitter civil war. It is more clear than ever that it is time for us to leave."

Moveon.org says the gathering allows a chance to commemorate this day, honor the sacrifice of our brave troops, and amplify our call for an end to the war, "MoveOn members and our allies are gathering this evening across the country at over 1,150 Iraq war anniversary candlelight vigils, on this, the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war."

Iraq War Memorial: Tonight, vigil hosts around the country will be reading stories from family members of troops who lost their lives in Iraq. To watch and listen to these stories at home, check out the online Iraq War Memorial put together by our friends at Brave New Foundation. For more information, visit this site: iraqmemorial.org

Organizers say they want to thank all people and groups involved in the creation of tonight's event. "Thanks for everything you are doing to make this the last Iraq war vigil we commemorate together."

The dedication and courage of the troops are not in question. The dedication and courage of our government is. Bring them home now!
