(SALEM) - Beginning Sunday night, a contractor working for the Oregon Department of Transportation will close one set of off and on-ramps per night for repaving along southbound I-5 between Aurora and Salem.

The same ramps on northbound I-5 will be closed overnight for repaving beginning March 25th.

The overnight ramp closures will occur from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM to minimize traffic impacts.

The exit and entrance ramp closures will begin on southbound I-5 at Aurora exit 278, proceed south to the ODOT Weigh Station, Woodburn exit 271, Brooks exit 263 and finish with the Keizer/Chemawa Road exit 260B near the north Salem city limits.

One lane of I-5 in the area of each ramp may be closed as early as 7:30 PM.

Delays to through traffic are expected to be minimal but when the ramps are closed, drivers will have to detour to the next freeway interchange to exit or enter I-5.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider using alternate routes.

Current construction and travel information is available online at www.TripCheck.com or by calling 511.

Ramp paving is the first step in a project to repave all of I-5 between the Baldock Rest Area (south of Charbonneau exit 282) and the Keizer/Chemawa Road exit 260B in Salem starting in early April and lasting through the summer.

The freeway paving work will happen at night to minimize traffic impacts.

More information about the I-5 paving project is available online at I-5: Charbonneau to Salem Improvements.

All work schedules depend upon weather conditions.
