(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem police say a man was severely beaten in his home Thursday night after two strangers came to his door asking to use the phone. 57-year-old Ted Dawson who lives in the 1500 block of 20th Street SE was left unconscious after the incident and a neighbor did not discover him for almost twelve hours. Police Lt. Chuck Bennett says the two people, a man and woman in their 20's, knocked on Dawson's door Thursday at 11:30 PM. After being allowed inside, they attacked Dawson by putting him a headlock, "the attacked him, they punched him in the face and he was struck with a bottle." Bennett says the pair beat Dawson unconscious and stole approximately $20 from his home. They also stole his pick-up truck which was recovered a short distance away. Dawson was discovered by a neighbor the next morning around 10:00 AM. Police were called to the scene to investigate and Ted Dawson was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The couple is at large at this time according to Dawson. The first suspect is described as a white adult with collar length sandy hair and a clean shave in his 20's, Five foot 10" with a thin build, t-shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect is an adult white female in her early to mid-20's with a blonde pony tail, five foot 5" with a medium build, wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans. Ted Dawson will survive his injuries but they were described as severe. Anyone with information on this case is asked to please call Salem Police at 588-6050. It's too bad a person tries to help someone by letting them use his phone and then he gets the crap beat out of him!!! Hope he is on the road to recovery soon!!
