(CHAPEL HILL, NC) - Durham police have captured the second of two men charged with murder in the shooting death of UNC student body president Eve Carson.

Heavily armed officers surrounded a house just before dawn where 17-year-old Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr was hiding. He surrendered to the officers without incident.

The other charged suspect, 21-year-old Demario James Atwater, was arrested yesterday. Both men have been charged with first degree murder in Carson's death.

Atwater was in court yesterday, and the Judge ordered he be held without bail. His next court date is set for March 24.

Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr has also been charged with first-degree murder and robbery in the death of 29-year-old Abhijit Mahato, who was found shot to death back in January in his apartment near the Duke University campus.

Carson, 22, was found shot to death in a suburban neighborhood not far from the UNC campus at about 5:00 a.m. last Wednesday. Her SUV was found the next day in a nearby neighborhood, not far from where she lived with roommates.

UNC will remember Carson and celebrate her life in a memorial service at 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, in the Dean E. Smith Center. Doors to the Smith Center will open at 3 p.m.

That "menacing" scowl is only going to make him more valuable as legal tender once he gets to prison.
