(SALEM) - Firefighters were called out to a house fire Sunday night just before 8:30 PM, at 4330 Snowberry St NE.

Salem Fire`s Joe Parrott says reports from witnesses at the scene indicated the garage was well involved in fire, so a second alarm was dispatched.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire in the garage of the single story home, according to Parrott. He says the garage was significantly damaged. `The living area of the home suffered minor fire and substantial smoke damage." Parrott says that fortunately, nobody was at home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Parrott says damage to the home is in excess of $40,000. There were no injuries reported. Firefighters were still at the scene late Sunday night, conducting overhaul to ensure no hidden fire remains and to secure the home.
