(SALEM) - Salem Fire Department responded to a third structure fire on Saturday. The first alarm units arrived at a one-story duplex at 4092 Weathers St NE at 4:19 PM. Arriving firefighters reported that moderate smoke was showing from the front of the duplex and that a fire was in the living room area. During the search of the residence, which was determined not to be occupied, firefighters rescued a puppy and the puppy's mother from the fire. Both dogs were given to neighbors until their owners returned. Salem firefighters had the fire extinguished within approximately ten minutes of their arrival. The fire was determined to have started from an electrical short in the television. Damages from the fire is estimated to be approximately $25,000. The renters, a male and female were not home at the time. They had left shortly before the fire started, but returned while firefighters were still on the scene. Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents.
